5 Simple Ways Women Over 40 Can Reclaim Their Energy—Starting Today

Are you constantly tired—no matter how much coffee you drink or how early you go to bed?

If you're a woman over 40, you’re not imagining it. Fatigue becomes all too common during perimenopause and beyond. As a health coach who works with women in this stage of life (and as a woman over 40 myself), I see it all the time. The good news? There is a fix.

Let’s talk about five simple but powerful ways you can boost your energy—starting today.

1. Start Your Day with Water (Before Coffee!)

Before the chaos begins, give your body what it really needs—hydration.

Drinking 16 ounces of warm lemon water first thing in the morning kickstarts your digestion, supports your metabolism, and hydrates your cells before caffeine and stress get involved. Coffee can wait—your body can’t.

2. Eat Enough Protein at Breakfast

Most women under-eat protein early in the day. (Yes, I’ve been guilty of this too.)

Aim for 25–30 grams of protein at breakfast to help stabilize your blood sugar and reduce cravings later in the day. Try:

  • Greek yogurt with berries

  • A protein smoothie

  • Scrambled eggs with veggies

When you fuel your body right, it stops begging for energy later.

3. Take a 10–15 Minute Walk After Lunch

Feeling that afternoon crash? A short walk can help.

A 10–15 minute walk after lunch:

  • Aids digestion

  • Lowers blood sugar

  • Gives your brain a mini recharge

This tiny habit can make the second half of your day feel so much lighter.

4. Power Down Before Bed

Blue light, stress, and screen time mess with your melatonin and circadian rhythm. That means poor-quality sleep—even if you're technically getting enough hours.

Try a 30-minute wind-down routine before bed:

  • Journaling

  • Grounding (barefoot outdoors or calming breathwork)

  • Magnesium supplements or tea

Your body needs real rest to restore your energy.

5. Take One Active Rest Day Weekly

Rest isn't lazy—it's a requirement.

Schedule one day a week for active recovery. This might look like:

  • Gentle yoga

  • A long nature walk

  • Breathwork or meditation

These lower-intensity practices reduce stress and help you come back stronger, physically and mentally.
